- As I read the recent triumphant cries on this list, *no one* has clearly
- received a copy of 4.0. Do y'all remember when the reason for delay was
- that the documentation wasn't ready? (This was the excuse-of-the-month for
- June, I believe.)Whenever it was, it leads me to the hardly excessive
- expectation that 4.0 includes full documentation. Everyone who has actually
- laid hands on the package they received recently speaks of single pages and
- brief tip lists.
-
- The documentation issue sounds all the more germane when one reads that
- apparently footnot formats are different enough between 3 and 4 that one
- cannot simply import a file with citations from NB3 into the framework of NB
- 4. This is discouraging enougn in itself. (Was it naive of me to think NB4
- would do more but very largely keep the commands, filenames, etc. of NB3?)
- But if there are going to be a series of substantial differences and the
- need for careful massaging of previous work before it is used in 4, then I
- damn well want the fullest possible documentation before I try to use the
- thing.
-
- If I'm fuming (not flaming! not flaming!)for no reason, I welcome
- consolation. If I'm not, let's have the bad news out in the open. This
- list will become all the more useful if adapting to NB4 is relatively
- complicated.
