- Your mail has prompted me to check into this again...
- I contacted SAS a while back about this and the response was that
- "application programs are not aware of compression since it's a
- hardware feature". Well, I wasn't totally convinced then or now.
- I just started another Tracking number (256737) on this today.
-
- The reason I think that SAS should find a way to determine/estimate
- compressed tape utilization is that we use FATS/FATAR (from Inovation?)
- and it yields an ungainly tape map that shows true est. feet used.
- In fact, their doc says that the hardware returns sensing values that
- help the application program determine the compression ratio.
- I think that SAS should review it's estimated feet algorithm for
- compressed cartridges (they know that the tape is compressed since
- the TRTCH entry is 'P' and the DEN entry is '0'!).
- I'd give SAS a call and report PROC TAPELABEL as incorrect.
