  14. Our shop is looking for tape management systems alternatives on MVS.  We are
  15. currently running one of the most popular systems (in terms of numbers of
  16. users, not necessarily in other facets).  We are sharing our tape management
  17. database with VMTAPE, as we share our tape library with VM.  We are looking
  18. for something that is compatible with VMTAPE, and that will save us some
  19. aggravation and some money.  Anybody got any experiences they could share?

  21. I heard talk that IBM may be coming out either with a tape management system,
  22. or at least the facility to put one on without extensive usermods.  Anyone
  23. have more details on this?  The only downside to IBM's proposed product(?),
  24. from what little I've heard, is that you have to buy everything with it
  25. (ie, DFHSM, DFDSS, etc., etc.)  We have no interest in buying all of that
  26. becuase we already have third party products that perform those functions
  27. quite well, and we are happy with them.  Can anyone substantiate, refute, or
  28. justify that claim?

  30. I have set the reply-to field to me, to keep the net clutter down (esp.
  31. since there is potential for some negative commentary that could inflame
  32. someone--I think we know who I'm talking about.  I suspect, though, that
  33. some will be interested in what's said, so I'll summarize if so (flames,
  34. of course, would be filtered out to protect the innocent, or the not-quite-
  35. so-innocent ;) .                    /\
