  22. Yes, Omnipage Professional is a system resource hog.  I can well imagine it
  23. would be VERY slow on a 16 Mhz machine.  I am using it on a 386dx 25 Mhz with
  24. a math coprocessor with 4 Mb RAM.  More RAM than I have is better, and it is
  25. probably best suited for a 486/33 or a fast 386 with a coprocessor.

  27. I have not done a thorough evaluation of OCR packages.  I know there are
  28. probably a couple of others that work as well as Omnipage.  We had some
  29. experience with a couple lower end programs that were negative, that is why
  30. we went to Omnipage.  We also had a version that ran on a 286 that required
  31. a special board (with a Motorola 68020 processor) to run it.  We had very
  32. negative experience with that version because the board caused a lot of
  33. problems.  However, when we upgraded to Omnipage Professional which requires
  34. a 386, the software functioned much better and yielded the desired results.

  36. There are two or three "good OCR" solutions out there.  I was just sharing
  37. my experience with Omnipage Professional (which runs under Windows on 386 and
  38. 486 equipment).  We also use it to scan graphics in many cases.
