  25. We are experiencing the same problem in BOBthe elementary school
  26. where I teach.  I have felt strongly about the need to teach
  27. keyboarding as early as third grade and do so using the MECC
  28. programm Communikeys.  I also use a more in depth program in a
  29. summer school class that I teach called PAWS.  I think it is
  30. published by Micro Grams.

  32. Many problems exist in the teaching of keyboarding.  Two of the
  33. biggest are: 1)scheduling the lab to all classes for the
  34. needed dailey practice, and 2) getting teachers to teach
  35. keyboarding that don't type themselves.  We do not have a
  36. computer lab teacher.

  38. One way we attempt to address the scheduling of practice
  39. sessions is to purchace a class set of Type Right machines.
  40. They are battery opperated keyboard consoles that simmulate a
  41. computer keyboard exactly.  They provide multi-level lessons,
  42. practice sessions and games and they fit easily on a student's
  43. desk.  They even come with a book much like a typing textbook.

  47. their position paper published several years ago.
