  27. THIS IS THE FINAL MESSAGE FROM DIGITAL ON VMS DECWINDOWS MOTIF AND THE TEI
  28. PROGRAMS.

  30. The VMS DECwindows Motif V1.1 commercial personal license is $265 for which
  31. education customers pay $132.50.  Many of the education customers received V1.0
  32. at no charge.  The update license to get to the new version if you are NOT
  33. under a service contract is $42 for which education customers pay $21.  Digital
  34. is committed to the VMS DECwindows Motif product.  The discussion in this
  35. conference has been disappointing for me when the assumption is that if we
  36. don't give it to you for free, we're difficult, we're not committed to
  37. standards, or products or this market.

  43. QUESTION:  WHERE DOES RTNV COME FROM FOR EDUCATION CUSTOMERS?

  45.     The CSLG Program gives you the license and rights to new versions for the
  46.     products that are in Addendum A of your CSLG Agreement.  Nothing more,
  47.     nothing less.
  48.  
  49.     The Education Softare Library or a Software Support Service contract will
  50.     give you the rights to new versions for the products that you have
  51.     purchased commercial licenses for.
  52.  
  53.     Education customers may purchase commercial update licenses (QL-part
  54.     numbers) for each system at a 50% grant each time a new version of the
  55.     product is desired.

  57. QUESTION:  WHAT ABOUT DECWINDOWS MOTIF LICENSES, RTNV AND SUPPORT?
  58.  
  59.     VMS DECwindows Motif is not in the CSLG and will not be in the CSLG.  It is
  60.     a royalty product.  If you would like the product, you may purchase the
  61.     commercial license (QL part number) at a 50% discount and may purchase the
  62.     media and documentation kit (H-kit) through DECdirect at a 30% discount.
  63.     Commercial licenses are not campuswide licenses so you will need to
  64.     purchase one license for each system.

  66.     When you purchase the product, you receive a Product Authorization Key
  67.     (PAK) that is different than a CSLG PAK.  You will NOT get a VMS DECwindows
  68.     Motif PAK from the Education Software Library or any Software Support
  69.     Service contract.  The commercial license for DECwindows Motif allows you
  70.     to run the product and it's new versions provided you are under a software
  71.     support service contract (SSS or ESL).

  73.     For example, if you are in the ESL, you have the rights to new versions and
  74.     phone support for the system on which you have purchased commercial VMS
  75.     DECwindows Motif licenses for ONLY!

  77.     If you are not under a service contract, the commercial license for
  78.     DECwindows Motif only gives you the rights to run the version of the
  79.     product that you originally purchased.

  81.     You will not receive PAKs from an SSS or an ESL contract.  These contracts
  82.     ONLY give you the rights to new version (RTNV) if you have purchased the
  83.     commercial license.   Technically, you could install a new version of Motif
  84.     and your original Motif PAK will work.  This is illegal.

  86. WHAT ABOUT THE MOTIF LICENSE DEAL?

  88.     The VMS DECwindows Motif license offer expired in February 1992.  If you
  89.     applied for the license, you the license for VMS DECwindows V1.0 and media
  90.     kit.  You did not recieve any rights to new versions or any software
  91.     support as part of that offer.  If you were under a service contract (SSS
  92.     or ESL) which was a prerequisite to apply for the offer, then you received
  93.     the RTNV and software support from your service contract.

  99. WHAT IS THE PRICING OF VMS DECWINDOWS MOTIF?

  101.     Remember that education cusotmers get a 50% on QL part number licenses and

  103.     education discount on any service offerings for education cutomers.
