- Ok. Now this is all a little hazy, but I think we made the switch
- like this:
-
- 1) Go out and buy, scrounge up, whatever a simple on/off switch, and
- some fine wire. What guage you ask? No clue. Just get something
- really fine. It has to fit into a small space.
- 2) Now, open up your computer and expose the Agnus chip. (must be a
- fatter or superfat Agnus)
- 3) Use a tiny piece of plastic (I used a little piece of hardish
- celophane packaging which didn't bend too badly) to isolate pin
- #7 on the Agnus chip. Now. This is the hazy part. Which pin is
- pin #7 I am not sure. All I can be sure of is that it's 7 pins
- in from one of the corners. At least that'll limit your search
- down to 8 tries at most.
- 4) Anyway, after isolation, use the wire to connect the pin on the
- Agnus to the switch and then to a ground. I used the drive casing
- which is a ground for other things anyway. For ease of use, I bored
- a hole in the bottom section of the casing right next to the drive
- and stuck the switch through it. This way I can take the cover off
- for susequent modifications without having wires holding the two
- parts together.
- 5) There you have it. I believe it boots in PAL when grounded and in
- NTSC when not grounded. Maybe it's the other way. Anyhow, one try
- will answer this question.
-
- I have an Amiga 500 with a revision 5 motherboard. I don't know how
- this will work on a revision six or if there are any problems or
- ambiguities at all. I've never seen a rev 6 anyhow. As for 2.04 ...
- well, ... that's up to you to discover. At worst you'll just always
- have to boot in NTSC but have a nifty little switch sticking out of
- the casing. Tell everyone it's a panic button.
- I hope this information helps. If not, well, tough luck I guess.
- I did receive one piece of mail regarding my initial post about
- a PAL/NTSC switch. Whomever it was (I forget) said not to bother
- with a switch at all, since future Workbenches will support booting
- in PAL or NTSC. The only thing is, how much are you willing to pay
- and how long do you want to wait?
- If anyone successfully instals a switch, please send me mail with
- a decription of which pin #7 is. Thanks.
