  24. What about those who do not use only emacs, but other programs which
  25. ALL follow some other convention? (OpenLook, for instance). Lemacs
  26. would be consistent with itself, which is more than some other
  27. programs can say, but it wouldn't be consistent with the rest of the
  28. world.

  30. I think the idea of labelling buttons by function rather than by
  31. number is a much better one.  In imouse (for epoch), for example, the
  32. buttons are labelled "SELECT", "MODIFY", and "PASTE" and they (mostly)
  33. retain those meanings with any modifier key.  Thus, I'd rather see the
  34. following guidelines:

  36. button "MOVE" moves point or (for example) scrolls the window
  37. button "SELECT" selects the buffer or (for example) sets mark
  38. button "MENU" pops up a menu
  39.  
  40. "MOVE" is by default assigned to button1
  41. "SELECT" is assigned to button2 under OpenWindows and button3 under twm
  42. "MENU" is assigned to button3 under OpenWindows and ??? under twm
  43.  
  44. Well, I don't know how to satisfy the last equation in lemacs (I did
  45. in imouse), but ideas are welcome.
