- Hello, peoples...this is an official announcement to tell you all (yeah, I
- know most of you couldn't care less, but hopefully some do) that I have
- decided to resume work on an IRC server for VMS. Thanks to three server
- admins (and a few other individuals) for their support, both now and in the
- past, you all know who you are. :-)
-
- I have already compiled and tested 2.7.2g.vms, and I'm confident enough to
- release a beta version, which is available from coombs.anu.edu.au
- (pub/irc/vms/ircd272g_beta.*) in both compressed and uncompressed forms, in
- a backup saveset. Backup is the VMS equivalent of tar, and I haven't
- provided a tar file for the code. If anyone needs it in tar, rather than
- backup, format, let me know.
-
- I hope to begin working on porting 2.8 beta to VMS as soon as uni and
- client coding commitments allow. :-) There's a lotta prejudice, and even
- more apathy, about the expansion of IRC onto other platforms. Let's see if
- we can get the two OS's working together, and hopefully combine the code so
- that a simple #define will get it running on either without change. :-)
