  23.      It should also be noted take Fabrikant took all of his acusations
  24. to the Montreal Gazatte (the cities on English language daily) in the
  25. spring and that after extensive investigation they refused to publish
  26. anything because none of his charges could be substansiated.

  28.     For those who have not had the opportunity to read the daily reports
  29. published in Montreal, it is established that a) Fabrikant was extremely
  30. litigeous (dozens of law-suits against everyone he had dealings with),
  31. b) abusive and threatening to anyone who disagreed with him.

  33.    My feeling and intution concerning this case are that our traditions
  34. of freedom of expression and fair play (due process) have failed us here.
  35. It is evident that Fabrikant was a madman who used the system to harass
  36. and coerce others into giving him what he wanted.  When he failed to
  37. achieve instant tenure, even thought he was on a tenure track, he bought
  38. three hand-guns (requiring considerable persistence on his part because
  39. his orginal applications for a gun permit were refused by the police) and
  40. shot his colleagues.

  42.     Today, everyone is asking how withins the bounds of our systems could
  43. this tragedy been averted.  The answers are NOT easy.
