  16. We have at our site several pcs working in conjunction with equipment
  17. from Molecular Dynamics.  These pcs receive images that are 20 to 40
  18. megabytes in size.  We use Vaxes running multinet for some of the analysis
  19. of these images and are looking for fast methods for transferring these
  20. images.  So far we find that pc->vax ftp transfers are enormously slower
  21. than the 256 kb/sec vax->vax file transfer.  In the case of PCNFS, file
  22. transfers from VAX->PC are 8 times faster than transfers from PC->VAX
  23. (130 kb/sec vs. 18 kb/sec).  Rates using NCSA Telnet are more even.  In
  24. addition, we note that using the NCSA FTP client is much slower (41 kb/sec)
  25. than using the NCSA FTP server (100 kb /sec)

  27. Does anyone out there have a better method or can anyone recommend 
  28. a pc/ethernet-card/software combination that will get our images from
  29. the pc to the VAX in anything like the time it takes to get the image from
  30. VAX to VAX?
