- my little brother richie is -- how shall i put this -- slightly
- undereducated. in addition, i have found him to be quite vulnerable
- to suggestion. yes, you're quite right: it *is* a perfect recipe for
- fun.
-
- it has been very hot, dry, and windy in salt lake city lately. i have
- been sneezing and coughing like everyone else in the valley, but when
- richie complained to me of itchy eyes, i told him of the horrors of
- conjunctivitis. smelly green pus leaking from between crusted
- eyelids. maddening, painful itching. malaise, fever, delirium.
- eventually you welcome death with open arms.
-
- last night he told me about a nightmare he had in which his eye
- itched, and when he scratched it, it began to crumble. the more he
- tried to stuff the bits back in, the more his eyeball crumbled and
- fell out. he woke up in a cold sweat.
-
- about five months ago, i sent him to his doctor, scared to death that
- he had hiv. i didn't tell him that the monster mountain bike ride i
- had taken him on earlier that week had left me weak and sore for days,
- too.
-
- you may think i am cruel, but i have a generous side too. so, in the
- spirit sharing, i will take a few requests. what shall it be next?
- schistosomiasis? a rare hemoglobinopathy? or perhaps a nice,
- inoperable brain tumor?
