  13. The difference between the Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link
  14. and the Usenet is that the WELL people aren't certain that
  15. "bozo filters" are a good idea.  What if someone who doesn't
  16. have something to contribute in one group has good things
  17. to say in another? they ask.  On Usenet, the only question
  18. is whether it's more efficient to put people in global killfiles,
  19. or to kill crossposts, or to kill by hand.

  21. On the WELL, groups are like clumps of people talking at a party.
  22. You can feel free to make remarks as they come to mind, knowing
  23. that they'll be received enthusiastically.  People might
  24. disagree, but they'll be polite about it.

  26. On Usenet, you have to package your idea in barbed wire.  Once
  27. you make it public, you must be prepared to defend it.  Somebody 
  28. is going to jump on your head for it, guaranteed.

  30. I'm not sure which one I like better.  There's nothing like
  31. talk.bizarre on the WELL.  There are a lot of Deadheads on the
  32. WELL, and fewer computer weenies.  This is sometimes fun, and
  33. sometimes frustrating.
