- In a word, it's not. Even the X-30 -- which is planned to be strictly a
- research aircraft, not a replacement for anything -- is stuck in "technology
- development" stage because Congress so far is unwilling to fund building
- a flying prototype. Given the lack of immediate military requirements
- and NASA's low level of interest (they'd like it, yes, but they're not
- making it a high priority), the price tag of the X-30 is simply too high.
- I expect continued work on the technology and very little progress toward
- actually flying anything.
