- There are no "scientific proofs" for anything relevent to the historical
- sciences (natural history, geology, cosmology, etc.) However nobody,
- including the scientists ever claim that there is. What does exist is
- overwhelming, irrefutable evidence, which although it does correspond to
- the notion of "proof" as in "reproducible unambiguous experiment", is
- still the only valid method available for reconstructing the past - and
- a good enough one that there is no doubt in the minds of the vast majority
- of those who actually look at the evidence that the Earth is billions of years
- old and that life evolved over that time.
