  12. By popular demand, my |STAT package is now available on the internet.
  13. |STAT runs on UNIX and DOS systems and provides about 30 programs
  14. for data manipulation and analysis.  Further information is available
  15. directly from me.

  17. |STAT is available via anonymous ftp in pub/stat at:
  18.     ftp.cis.ohio-state.edu (128.146.8.52)
  19. The file:
  20.     stat.tar.Z.crypt.uu
  21. is the uuencoded, encrypted, compressed, tar archive of the package.
  22. To unpack the archive, you need uudecode, crypt, uncompress, and tar.
  23. To ensure that the distribution restrictions on |STAT are maintained,
  24. a password has been attached to the archive.
  25. To obtain the password from me, you must send me a message with:
  26.     I AGREE TO ADHERE TO THE CONDITIONS OF USING |STAT.
  27.     I AGREE THAT I WILL NOT SHARE THE |STAT PASSWORD WITH OTHERS.
  28. After obtaining the file, which you can also request from me via email,
  29. you should run the following commands:
  30.     uudecode < stat.tar.Z.crypt.uu
  31.     crypt < stat.tar.Z.crypt > stat.tar.Z
  32.     uncompress stat.tar.Z
  33.     tar xvf stat.tar
  34. You should then have a "stat" directory that will take up about a megabyte.
  35. In the stat/src directory, you should make any necessary changes
  36. to the "makefile" and then run "make" to build the package.
  37. In addition to the online manuals, the file handbook.txt contains
  38. a lineprinter version of the |STAT handbook.  The troff source to
  39. the handbook is not yet structured enough for ftp distribution.
