- Howdy,
-
- [please note: this message is cross-posted]
-
- I'm in need of a processor to act as the controller for an embedded
- system. It will need to be able to deal with 8 or so inputs (analog
- to digital stuff would be cool but not necessary, and if needed I
- could do up some kinda multiplexing to deal with extra inputs), be
- cheap, be non-power consuming, and hopefully be able to talk easily to
- a TI THCT4502BN memory controller that's running 256k simms.
- Additionally, it should be fairly robust, as it will need to deal with
- a pretty harsh environment.
-
- So that you have more of an idea what I'm doing, I'm designing a
- second generation data acquisition system that records relevant data
- from a racing motorcycle (things like suspension movement, rpm,
- throttle position, exhast gas temp, etc); keeps it around until the
- bike gets back into the pits; then uploads its data to a trackside pc.
-
- The first generation system was built as far as it needed to be about
- two months ago. In that system we used custom logic implimented on
- PAL's to control the writing of sensor data to memory, through the
- TI memory controller above. We found some problems with PALs, the
- major ones being: power consumption, relative lack of adapability, and
- us needing to design the logic. I'd like to go to a processor
- (simple one probably) to allow for a more adapable system as well as
- (hopefully) easier implimentation.
-
- Also, pointers toward the proper places to contact for
- hardware/software docs for various processors would be handy.
-
- Thanks for any help,
-
