- About two years ago I built 8 EMG (Electromyographic) devices for my wife's
- dissertation. Basically, the subjects would attact electrodes to their
- jaw and whenever they would clench their teeth throughout the night, the
- emg units would record the amount of this activity. (The muscles emit
- electric potentials when active.
-
- We noticed when an electric blanket was used OR plugged in, the EMG units
- would accumulate rapidly. Only when the blankets were unplugged would
- the units not record any activity (when the subject was laying still &
- not using the facial muscles). We had to instruct the subjects to unplug
- their electric blankets while they participated in the study.
-
- We definately leave ours unplugged!
