- I need some help. I don't know much about electronics and I want to
- to connect a Super Nintendo Entertainment System to a Sony TV with a
- SCART connector on the back. I live in New Zealand so it is a PAL TV,
- but it also supports NTSC input (ie you can push a button and it will
- switch to a NTSC mode). I would like the best picture possible so a
- RGB connection would be best, and I believe the TV will be able to
- handle the sync? Can anyone tell me for sure?
-
- Failing that I guess the next best would be a Super VHS connection.
- So can someone please email me telling me how I can connect between
- these two connectors for RGB and Super VHS output. An article appeared
- in the April Radio-Electronics magazine but they didn't discuss SCART
- connectors.
-
- I would also like to be able to input stereo sound into the TV, but
- to do that you need a matrix invertor, whatever that is?
-
- Supposedly Redmond cable have all the connectors and cable, but I
- don't know whether they would sell any which have SCART connectors on
- them. Can someone find out for me? Can someone give me their address,
- phone number and fax number.
-
- The pins on the connectors of the TV and the SNES are as follows :

- Pin No
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 1 Red Video For linear RGB monitor use.
- One volt peak-to-peak off of an emitter
- follower source.
- Requires a series 200 ufd coupling capacitor.
-
- 2 Green Video (same as pin 1)
-
- 3 /RGB Sync For linear RGB monitor use.
- Active low combined vertical an horizontal
- sync pulses.
- 0 - 5 volt high logic source is CMOS and
- TTL compatible.
-
- 4 Blue Video (same as pin 1)
-
- 5 Ground Provided to ease teminating of shielded
- video and audio cables.
-
- 6 Ground (same as pin 5)
-
- 7 Super VHS "Y" The luminance channel for Super VHS video.
- One volt peak-to-peak into a 75 ohm load.
- Internally capacitor coupled.
-
- 8 Super VHS "C" The chroma channel for Super VHS video.
- One volt peak-to-peak into a 75 ohm load.
- Internally capacitor coupled.
-
- 9 NTSC Video NTSC composite video. The sync tips are at
- ground.
- One volt peak-to-peak into a 75 ohm load.
- Internally capacitor coupled.
-
- 10 +5 Volts DC A limited amount of +5 Volts supply power
- may be drawn out of this pin for sync
- inverters or doing a stereo dematrixing.
-
- 11 L+R Sound The monophonic and stereo matrixed sound
- appears on this pin.
- One volt peak is suitable for amplifiers
- but not headphones.
-
- 12 L-R Sound The stereo matrixed difference signal appears
- on this pin.
- Add pins 11 and 12 for left stereo: subtract
- them for right stereo output signals.
