  27.  First, the screen is unlikely to be a common type. There's a 50% chance
  28. it a custom design for Sony. Second, $790 isn't that bad a price. LCD screens
  29. are expensive.  The only reason Apple can afford to sell them for $900
  30. is because they probably get a deep volume discount. As an individual you're
  31. unlikely to get a better price.

  33. EDN (Electronic Design for engineers) recently published an article 
  34. on LCD screens. The prices listed were very high, usually over the $1000
  35. price level.

  37. Which brings a question to mind. I can't think of any ads in Byte that are
  38. offering PC notebooks for less than $1000. Are there any? Or is Apple
  39. dumping the PB 100s to get market share?
