- I have a VLSI CCD chip which has gotten what looks like a blob of (food)
- grease on the imaging surface. Needless to say I would like to get rid
- of the blob in order to use the chip. All I have been able to gather
- about the cleaning of CCD devices is "don't" and "use a soft brush or
- dry gas". In my case I think that neither a soft brush or a dry gas
- would work. I think I need some sort of solvent to lift off or dissolve
- the grease.
-
- My question is: What solvent should I use to clean this delicate
- structure and how should it be used or applied? I was thinking of Freon
- or ether, but I really don't know. What solvents are used during the
- manufacture of such devices?

- Please reply by e-mail to gadallah@wu2.wl.aecl.ca (Larry Gadallah)
-
- I will summarize and post to the appropriate group if there is a large
- response.

- Thanks!
