  13. Our troop is looking for replacements for our existing "fleet" of
  14. tents. I would like to hear what kinds of tents other scotuers on the
  15. net have experience with, and if there are ways to get particularly
  16. good deals.

  18. We currently have ten four-man (nominal) canvas, cabin-style tents
  19. taht we have used for about fifteen years. It has taken a great deal
  20. of repair and TLC to get them this far. But they all seem to be wearing
  21. out at the same time, like the one hoss shay.
  22.  
  23. We camp at least one weekend a month throughout the school year, in 
  24. addition to the week of summer camp and often another week of high
  25. adventure campign each summer. For most of this, we haul the troop
  26. equipment in a large trailer, so bulk and weight are not a big
  27. concern. When we go backpacking, most of the older scouts have their
  28. own light weight tents that we use.

  30. Since we camp year round in Michigan, we see extremes in weather
  31. and most of it is wet.
  32.  
  33. The desirable characteristics are:
  34.  
  35.     - able to hold three souts + gear 
  36.     - durable
  37.     - easy to set up ( at night, in the rain, etc.)
  38.     - easy care
  39.     - enough standing room to be comfortable
  40.     - a good deal over the long run, not necessarily the lowest price
  41.  
  42. I'd like to hear comments and suggestions.
