- Has anyone had any experience with using Ammonium
- Nitrate, Aluminum powder (missile grade), and epoxy as a
- fuel/binder as a solid rocket fuel?
- Right now, I'm using 15% epoxy, 61% Ammonium Nitrate,
- and the rest Aluminum (measurements by mass). This produces the
- least amount of "black crud" (as it's affectionately known).
- This black crud is still sufficient enough to plug the nozzle
- and turn a rocket into an expensive firecracker (not that I've
- tried it yet).
- I think polyethylene as a fuel/binder would be more
- suitable. Where can I find a cheap/pure form of polyethylene?
-
- What are some other fuel combo's that use aluminum
- powder (I still have a drum of it left)? The formula above with
- the polyethylene _should_ give me a specific impulse of around
- 2.5 (kN/kg/s). Is this a good number? What can I expect of other
- mixtures?
