- Typical "factory air" systems in cars are around 2-3 HP (approx 2-3 tons)
- or 24000-36000 BTUs. My Pontiac Transport Van now develops approx
- 5-6 tons (60000-72000) BTUs on hot days (over 90F), but that is with
- experimental refrigerant, defrost timer, etc. That "feels good"
- for those times when starting up a roasting car, but it is over
- kill for average driving, except maybe in humid south Florida.
- It puts out 28F air @ 100F outside, highway driving.. 34-36F city.
-
- You could make one out of Peltier devices, but depending on the
- effeciency of them would require 4-10 HP to power a generator
- or alternator to make the electricity for it (several hundreds
- of amps). My GM alternators burn out just running the two
- fans! (radiator and heater)... and they are rated at 100A at that!
- Sure don't build things like they used to. There is no free lunch.
