  23.   I had a similar problem on my '85 Jetta - you needed two hands to shift 
  24. anywhere!  I ended up buying some thick grease (high pressure stuff) and 
  25. applying it to all the levers and rod joints that the stick moves under the
  26. hood.  Now it works perfectly!
