- Greetings.
-
- Something might be wrong with my set-up and I don't know if it is a real
- problem or not. Before calling in the cavalry and possibly making an a**
- of myself, I prefer to ask here.
-
- This is my current setup, just in case the answer lies here:
-
- CD player: Nakamichi CD player 4
- tape deck: Denon DRM-510
- tuner: used Akai (I don't remember the model number...)
- integrated amp.: ARCAM Delta 60
- speakers: Energy 3.1e (on stands)
- cables: for speaker : "cheap" Monster Cable (the translucid one)
- interconnects: what came with the equipment, except
- a MonsterCable between the CD player and
- the amp (I don't remember the model here
- either).
-
- One month ago, when I turned on my tape deck, I heard a very distinctive
- "click" through the speakers, even if the CD was the selected source.
- I presumed at the time that it must have been a spike going from component
- to component through the power bar ( a Curtiss Ruby); if the power bar did
- not isolate each plug, it was better to buy something that would.
-
- So I went out and bought an ADCOM ACE-515, which is supposed to do that.
-
- After plugging everything, I tried to see if switching on the tape deck could
- still be heard through the speakers (i.e. "the click"): no.
-
- Ah, what a relief, no more problem - so I thought.
-
- Last week, during a good shower, a spike shook my system like if the ACE was
- not there (the CD went bonkers and the amp cut off). Two days after, I
- noticed to my upmost horror that by touching the ACE's power cord I could
- hear a more or less loud ...er... well, the sound that comes out of the radio
- or the TV when someone uses an electric drill in the house (sorry, I don't
- remember the word in english), no matter how the volume is set.
-
- So I looked to see if it the power cord that was pulled from the socked, if
- it was improperly seated - no, it was still secured; no electrical arc
- there...
- The only explanation I can see is that the ACE's power cord was stepped on,
- but I don't see any visible dammage no where...
-
- And worse, the "click" I mentionned earlier returned...
-
- So, netters, what could cause this "arc-like" sound? Could it be:
- a) that the ACE was dammaged by the spike?
- b) that the ACE's power cord was crushed?
- c) or what?
-
-
- Worriedly yours,
-
- Bruno Majewski
-
- p.s.: someone mentionned that the "click" is not a real problem, it's just
- that my amp is not filtering it... could it be true?
