- Over the past few years, there have been a large number of posts
- complaining about 6th Avenue's service. They are masters of the
- bait-and-switch technique. I've gone in there many times, even after
- calling ahead to make sure the specific merchandise was in stock, only
- to get there and have a salesman tell me that they are out and "XXX is
- really much better, wouldn't I care to hear it?
-
- I live about a mile from their Paramus store and shop there fairly on
- occasion. I can say that if you have the cash in your hands, can
- inspect the merchandise before you buy it, and get their word (for
- what it's worth) that they will exchange it for another (and that they
- have an exchange unit with which to to replace it -- they don't give
- refunds), I'd say that their prices can't be beat and that you should
- buy there.
-
- Make sure the goods come with a US distributor's warranty, unless they
- clearly identify the goods as "gray market" and you are getting a
- reasonable cost savings. Expect to handle "gray market" repairs, if
- they are needed, by yourself because 6th Avenue can't do them. Factor
- this into your cost.
-
- Personally, I wouldn't trust them for mail order though I do buy there
- in person.
