  20. You asked about Spanish contracted Braille.  Iused to know it reasonably
  21. well.  You asked whether the whole-word contractions in English were the
  22. same as those in Spanish.  In a word, no.  Each language has its own
  23. whole-word, part-word and sign contractions.  I used to read French
  24. contracted Braille and also German contracted Braille (can still read
  25. the latter fairly well).  Each has its own contractions, though a very
  26. few are common with those of Standard English Braille.

  28. In other words, asside from the alphabet, which is roughly the same, one
  29. must learn Braille for each language as a separate code, as it were.
