- ANTIWAR MOBILIZATIONS AGAINST BUSH THREATS
-
- The war threat sparked immediate protests in several cities, and
- antiwar coalitions across the country are on emergency alert. In
- Boston the New England Coalition to Stop U.S. Intervention in the
- Middle East, together with the Movement for a Peoples Assembly,
- hit the streets Monday, Aug. 17.
-
- In New York the National Coalition to Stop U.S. Intervention in
- the Middle East picketed in front of the Bush/Quayle Campaign
- Office Aug. 19.
-
- "From Iraq to Yugoslavia, U.S. Out Now!" chanted demonstrators in
- front of the JFK Federal Building in Boston. The protest appeared
- on the Channel 4 evening news and was covered in the Boston
- Globe.
-
- "At a time when unemployment in the U.S. is rising and plants are
- closing, we need jobs and education, not more racist
- attacks -- whether by the police in Los Angeles or the U.S.
- military against the people of Iraq," declared Phebe Eckfeldt,
- spokesperson for the Boston coalition.
-
- "Already responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of
- Iraqis -- hundreds of whom still die every day due to murderous
- sanctions imposed by the U.S.-controlled UN -- George Bush
- threatens further death to the people of Iraq on behalf of big
- oil and his re-election campaign," said Sara Flounders of the New
- York coalition.
