it" Excellent for both "beginners" and long-time activists.

Good for public education; video directly from Central America, and
interview with peasants and workers and human rights workers there,
exactly what's all but completely missing from mainstream coverage.

Discusses Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua (emph. on 1990 elections
and what they really meant), and the Invasion of Panama.

Produced by the Empowerment Project, 1988

An extremely well-done, powerful video about the Iran-Contra scandal,
and subsequent coverup. Includes interviews with former CIA analyst
David MacMichael; Former U.S. Ambassador Robert White; Barbara
Honegger, formerly a key Reagan/Bush '80 campaign worker; former
Iranian President Bani-Sadr; Former contra Eden Pastora; Former contra
directorate member Edgar Chamorro; Peter Dale Scott, co-author of _The
Iran-Contra Connection. Secret Teams and Covert Operations in the
Reagan Era_; quite a few, surprisingly candid government officials,
including Rep. Henry Gonzales and Rep. Jack Brooks; Tony Avirgan and
Martha Honey; the Christic Institute's Daniel Sheehan; etc.

Includes extensive, professional graphics and video excerpts,
including of the La Penca bombing. The video starts with the "October
Surprise" -- including displaying copies of U.S. sales of weapons to
Iran in *1981* (the official, *post* Iran-Contra story still is that
these sales began many years later); the "October Surprise," the title
of Honegger's book, is what the Reagan/Bush campaign feared most in
late 1980; that Carter might be able to get the hostages out before
the elections and thus win... the evidence, increasingly strong,
suggests that the Reagan/Bush campaign met Iranian officials in
Paris in 1980 to avoid an "October Surprise," cutting a deal to delay
the release of the American Hostages (by some 70 days) in return for
the U.S. selling Iran advanced weapons. Various CIA officials and
Iranians (including Bani-Sadr, now living in exile) have confirmed and
produced much evidence to support this (see also Breneke below).  The
video continues to cover the CIA/contra role in drug-running; in the
La-Penca bombing; Ollie/NSC's plans to suspend the Constitution, etc.

Does not include more recent revelations: e.g., relating to the
Breneke trial [Roughly, Breneke testified for the defense in a trial
of another person saying his friend/colleague had undertaken what he
was accused of doing (spying?drugs? I need to find articles again) as
part of his work for the CIA. Breneke also testified that the
Reagan/Bush campaign did indeed cut a deal with Iran in '80 to delay
the release of the hostages in return for weapons sales. The
government promptly sued Breneke for lying under oath. In May, 1990, a
jury found Breneke not-guilty of the charges against him];

...and also the CIA's role in subverting the Costa-Rican investigation
of La-Penca, or the fact that the Costa Rican legislature has since
declared the former U.S. Ambassador, Ollie North, Robert Owen, and
other Iran-Contra characters *persona non grata* in Costa Rica for
their roles in the criminal activity; also John Hull, who worked with
the CIA in the contra gun/drug running operations, has been indicted
in Costa Rica for murder, and has since jumped bail and fled to the
U.S. (Hull was named in the Christic Institute's 1986 suit on behalf
of Avirgan for his role in the La Penca bombing.) The conclusions of
the Costa-Rican Atty.  General's investigation of La Penca are nearly
identical to those in the Avirgan/Honey suite brought forth by
Christic in 1986.  [See CAIB #34 (see "publications" file ).

   [My only criticism of which is the neglect to mention key
   Nicaragua-related reasons when they enumerate "the real reasons for
   the invasion": Noriega's refusal to participate in a "discovered
   weapons" setup for Nica planned by US; Noriega's having helped Nica
   "get around" the US embargo partially (and with Nica elections coming
   up) and, possibly, giving CIA trouble with canal zone, which had been
   used (quite illegally wrt canal treaty) to coordinate the contra war]
