- =====================================
-
- Consider the following four categories of posts:
-
- (1) News ("U.S. Invades <fill in blank>" ; "Bush Drops Out of Race")
-
- (2) Info (Chart with footnotes shows military spending, infant
- mortality, AIDS cases in U.S., versus other countries, etc)
-
- (3) Resources (Listings of Media or Washington addresses, telephone
- numbers, fax #s; same info for activist groups,
- publications, videos, socially responsible investment, etc)
-
- (4) Analysis (Self expalantory, although a FAIR report will have
- some "News", a Chomksy article much footnoted "Info" etc)
-

-
- Please rate the importance of each of these to you on a 0-5 scale
-
- 0 = not useful at all
- 1 = occassinally useful
- 2 = sometimes useful
- 3 = often useful
- Plus a possible 1 point if "very useful" (same frequency)
- Plus a possible 2 points if "critical"/"extremely useful" (same frequency)

- V o l u n t e e r i n g :

-
- Do you have a scanner?
-
- [Yes/No]
-
- Are you willing to type in articles?
-
- [Yes/No]
-
- Are you willing to be (snail-)mailed disks with articles and email us
- the articles? (if so, what type of PC do you have? IBM clone? Mac? Of
- what type?)
-
- [Yes/No on this line; if Yes please use format "Yes: IBM XT"]
-
- Are you willing to regularly type in Calendars or Events, and/or
- advertised lectures, conferences, books, videos, etc, alone or in a
- group, from your favorite mag/paper, be it Nation, In These Times, Z
- Magazine, or whatever?
-
- [Yes/No; if "Yes" please use format: "Yes: Nation"]
-
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
-
- Do you know an organization, publication (E.g. Nation, In These Times,
- etc) person, etc, well enough to be a "contact person"? And spend some
- time (how much?) as intermediary? (for: getting them online; getting
- permiss. to post articles; possibly working with them on projects
- (e.g. Daniels pres. campaign; PSNs (Progressive Students Newspapers)
- contacts to set up a network of these which would take the IGC/MAP
- "feed" of info. etc))
-
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
-
- [Special section; reply directly to us:]
-
- Are you willing to be a contact person who "scans" the UseNet for
- references to MAP. We [Rich and Harel] are swamped and rarely
- read newsgroups at all, and Rich reads to a rather limited extent.
- So there are charges against MAP somestimes that need to be
- rebutted but we miss, or a less malevolent person posts saying
- they don't like something but I don't see it and they don't know
- they should email to me so I don't reply, or just a question, etc.
- This would include news.groups and news.admin, and
- alt.activism,talk.politics.misc,and a few others.
-
-
- TECHNICAL: A Unix Expert? Know Emacs and either know or are willing to
- learn (or be a "gofer" who asks the Net) about Emacs Lisp?
-
-
- DISK SPACE: Have some spare Megabytes for backup or actual storage for
- MAP/ACTIV-L stuff? We're looking for a unix-based archive-server
- since the one we're now using is running out of space.
-
-
-
- Can you help with MAP's Limited Propagation?
-
- While MAP's readership has steadily grown, our "propagation" or % of
- machine which carry misc.activism.progressive has remained fairly low.
- As a result, articles are sometimes never received on the west coast of
- the US.
-
- If we can find a well-connected host on the west coast which is
- willing to take a map feed directly from mont@cs.missouri.edu, we'd be
- better off.
-
- Well connected means that they are closely connected (1 hop away) to a
- central usenet host like ucbvax (Direct feed means an actual nntp
- tcp/ip connection between the two hosts)
-
-
- [Please reply by email to harelb@math.cornell.edu *and*
- rich@pencil.cs.missouri.edu if you answered "Yes" to any of the
- questions in this last section (after the last " - - - -")]
