- Dear Peacnet:
-
- Following is a news release from the Unemployment and
- Poverty Action Committee (UPAC) concerning a press conference for
- Tuesday, August 18, 1992, the International Day of Solidarity with
- the Afro-American People. I hope you will post it and share it
- with others.
-
- The current trial of Clair E. George should be of
- paramount interest to all users or subscribers to peacenet. It is
- now going into its fifth week and has been widely covered by such
- newspapers as the The Washington Post, The New York Times, and
- perhaps The Los Angeles Times. The Black America News Service
- (BANS) has attempted to provide information about documents on the
- Iran-Contra Scandal as well as data about George's trial.
-
- I understand for some it is vacation time, but the history
- of the CIA in Chile, Central America, collaboration with Nazis,
- and many other sordid realities justify more and more attention to
- the trial of Clair E. George who has been identified as the top
- CIA person in charge of the worldwide covert activities from July
- 1984 through December, 1992. The U.S. Grand Jury says the
- fore-going in its indictment.
-
- Many thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
-
- Sincerely,
-
- James Forman, President of the Unemployment and Poverty Action
- Committee and Publisher of the Black America News Service, BANS

- Attention: All assignment editors and all members of the press!
-
- UPAC will hold a press conference on the CIA
-
- Washington, D.C....On Tuesday morning, August 18, 1992, UPAC
- will hold a press conference in front of the U.S. District Court
- Building for the District of Columbia to protest the existence of
- the CIA and to call its abolition. U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick
- Moyniham of New York State has also issued a call for the
- abolition of the CIA.
-
- CIA spymaster, Clair E. George, is currently on trial in the
- U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for violations of
- the 1984 Boland Amendment and other charges. This Boland
- Amendment was an act of the U.S. Congress that prohibited the CIA
- and all other U.S. intelligence agencies and personnel from
- interfering in the internal affairs of the Nicaraguan people. The
- U.S. Grand Jury indictment against George said that he was the
- person who "supervised the worldwide intelligence activities of
- the CIA in the areas of covert action, intelligence collection,
- and counter-intelligence, " from July, 1984 through December,
- 1987.
-
- The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia is
- located at Third Avenue and Constitution Avenue, NW in Washington,
- D.C. All members of the press and the public are invited to
- attend this press conference.
