- Aipac is in a bit of trouble because of its enemies list, to the
- point where the Israeli government is supposedly disassociating
- themselves from recent Aipac activities. Aipac has been getting
- a lot of negative publicity -- with an article by Robert I. Friedman
- from the Village Voice apparently reprinted in Ha'aretz and the story
- picked up by Davar and numerous US Jewish newspapers, including the
- Forward -- for their vendetta against Andrew Silow Carroll, formerly
- editor of the Washington Jewish Week (WJW).
-
- Silow Carroll spoke at a program I helped organize here in
- Washington in the spring of 1991. The event was a "Mother Earth
- Sunday" -- a picnic with a variety of workshops on Jewish cultural
- and community issues -- whose principle organizer belongs to Shomrei
- Adamah (Hebrew for "Guardians of the Earth"), the Jewish
- environmental group. A former Aipac intern attended his talk on
- major Jewish organizations and the media; the intern's notes led to
- a memo circulated to members of the WJW's board and others. Silow
- Carroll was fired this last spring, although the WJW's publisher
- states that he was fired because he didn't increase the paper's
- circulation.
-
- The Washington Post will supposedly publish a story on this
- controversy within the next few days.
-
- I'd be interested in hearing about other places this story
- surfaces. Send me e-mail, post to the nets, or send clippings to me
- at the address below.
