- This is creative, and it leaves some evidence which the toll takers
- can point to. However, the way these things usually work is that
- they just pass a rule saying "no pennies". Also, if they make the
- attendent count it all, it will delay you, and everyone behind you,
- everyday.

- Easier than a letter? How far we have fallen since the days
- of Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. Perhaps
- the schools are worse than I thought.
-
- How much trouble could it be? You just wrote one to all of us ;) .
-
- If you think that Richmond will care if the Dulles Toll Road is
- backed up and looped around the beltway, I've got some lottery
- tickets to sell you.
-
- The reasons to write a letter include the following:
-
- 1) A piece of paper is sitting on the desk of someone who is responsible.
- 2) It can be referred to at hearings, including the fact that they
- blew you off, if they were foolish enough to do that.
- 3) Your politicians (assuming you vote, that is if it's "easy" enough
- for you ;) ) can ask the "faceless paperpusher" how many complaints
- she/he has received, what happened to your letter, and what he/she is
- doing about it. This assumes that someone out there takes the
- time to write a letter to his/her state legislators.
- 4) You can have the satisfaction of knowing that you did the minimum
- a good citizen should do. That is, you let the powers that be
- know what is screwed up.
-
- If you are wasting so little time that the hour it takes to write a letter
- is too much, and it's not easy enough, how do you expect anyone to
- feel much sympathy? Your scheme is, however, typical of the D.C.
- area. Usually there is alot of hot air and righteousness. If there
- is any action, it usually takes the form of petty actions designed
- to cause anger and ill-will, instead of a search for common advantage,
- or the formation of a voting powerblock with a uniting interest and
- organized agenda. I must admit that should five percent of the commuters
- follow this advice and insist that it all be counted, it will back up
- the road, and it will make the TV/papers. But I can't understand
- how a week of getting home at 9pm is easier than writing a letter
- and spending an hour at a candidates town meeting or public hearing.
