- The original posting does not contain sufficient information
- on which to base a response. He did not say what operating system
- he was running on his 486 PC.
-
- For what it's worth, I have a 386 (a lowly 20 MHz slug!) at home
- running Dell System V Release 4, and I use SLIP to connect to systems
- at work all the time. I'm using a Telebit Worldblazer (OK, it's 14,400
- bits per second, not 9600, so sue me) and Dell's built-in SLIP support.
- On the other (office) end is a Xyplex Maxserver 1500 terminal server,
- which, of course, supports SLIP.
-
- It works quite well. You wouldn't want to run a drawing package over
- it, but simple things like emacs and xrn work fast enough to be tolerable
- (though not entirely pleasant).
-
- Email me if you're interested in the details of how to set up the SLIP
- link, because they're probably of interest only to people running Dell's
- UNIX port.
