- Hi,
-
- I am currently evaluating using a PC as an X server (vs and X terminal).
- This evaluation will be important in determining what undergrad computing
- lab purchases we make.
-
- My setup consists of:
-
- 33Mhz 486 (4 Mb RAM) + Win 3.1 + Xvision 4.1 + PC/TCP 2.03 + Trident t1024c.drv
-
- The Xvision program works very well except for an annoying slow scrolling effect
- and slow mouse button activation response. The former occurs when listing
- a long document under shelltool. I would like to know:
-
- - is this a common problem with PC-based X servers which can only be solved
- by buying better hardware?
- - is this a software problem (i.e. Xvision and/or PC/TCP future upgrades will
- improve this)?
- - is this a setting problem (Xvision preferences, improved graphics driver)?
-
-
- I have also heard mention of DesqView/X? Is this a better X server than
- Xvision? Is it more expensive? Does it run under Windows? Does it require
- an underlying network program (i.e. PC/TCP)?
-
- Finally Xvision is supposed to run with PC-NFS. We are using PC-NFS 4.0a
- and Xvision 4.1 has problems with it. Will this ever be solved (i.e.
- by the next release of Xvision)?
-
- Thanks for any help,
