- This is done in Xlib, not the X server. You could do it in XLookupString()
- or use the i18n input methods in X11R5.

- in R3 i saw some contrib stuff that actually did do it in the server,
- where it was much more efficient. i looked at putting it into my R4
- server, but the server had changed so much that i couldn't figure out
- how to move the changes from R3. so i gave up and settled with the
- Xlib solution (i use the Openwindows implementation).
