- I have been wrestling with this problem for quite some time now and am
- getting very frustrated and angry. I am using OW3 on an SS2.
-
- The problem is that applications .openwin-init are not starting up
- correctly. I will get any number of the following error messages:
-
- Xview Error: Cannot open connection to window server: :0 (Server Package)
- Error: Can't Open Display: :0
-
- If I use the OW "toolwait" command as suggested, I get:
-
- toolwait: Couldn't Open display: (null)
-
- As a result of these errors, the applications do not come up. I get anywhere
- from 1 to about 9 of the errors every time a start openwin. It is exceedly
- annoying when I start up openwin, and have half of my applications fail to
- appear. It makes open windows useless if I can't start out the way I want.
-
- I have been trying to find the cause of the problem and after tweaking every
- file I can think of and bringing up openwin several hundred times, I cannot
- find a cause. I would like someone from Sun to look into this. I know I'm
- not the only one with this problem. I checked the bug lists, and could not
- find anything appropriate.
-
- All I know is this:
-
- The errors "seem" to appear when there are more than 7 or 8 applications in
- .openwin-init. However they can appear with less, but are much more probable
- if more applications are present. Also, the larger the applications, the more
- probable the error ( as if the server is too busy ).
-
- If the line "sleep 1" is put in between each application, the errors disappear.
-
- I refuse to let my users use OW3 until this error is taken care of. It is
- ridiculous to have my users put a "sleep 1" in between each application.
- Many of them barely know what a computer is let alone UNIX or X. And the first
- invocation of SAVE_WORKSPACE, the changes to .openwin-init will be wiped out.
-
- I am sick and tired of dealing with these errors which occur every %&^%$&^$
- day. I don't know where to go from here.
-
- WILL THE PEOPLE FROM SUN OR SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE GIVE ME A REMEDY FOR THIS
- SITUATION.
-
- Thank you ... and have a nice day.
