-
- Less than that; when I graduated in 1988 it was selling 16 oz. bottles
- for $.25, when most other places were selling 12 oz. cans for $.50 or
- more.
-
- However, the machine was in the grad CS lab as I mentioned yesterday;
- you needed a special key (or a friendship with someone with such a key
- :) to get in. For a while they also had an M&M machine in there which
- distributed a huge handful of M&M's for $.10.
-
- Actually I almost missed my own graduation ceremony because of that
- coke machine [nostalgic story follows; press `n' now!]: at CMU we had
- a larger ceremony for the whole university, then each department split
- up and handed out diplomas to its students. In that intermission a
- friend and I decided we *needed* a coke, and figuring it would take at
- least a half-hour to set up the smaller ceremony we wandered over to
- get one.
-
- When we got back they were already over half-way through handing out
- the diplomas. Luckily both our names begin with `S' so they hadn't
- got to us yet; but our row was lined up to get on stage already, so we
- just wandered down the row asking people their last name until we
- found the proper place, and jumped in :-).
-
- Sad to hear it's gone though. I suppose whomever owns the current
- vending machine wouldn't be too thrilled about having people muck with
- the hardware :(.
