  12. I am looking for a couple of utilities to deal with some problems I am
  13. having:

  15. The first problem is minor, but anoying.  It seems that /etc/utmp
  16. sometimes gets out of sync with reality.  That it, finger, who, and w
  17. (which all read this file) report users as being logged in who are not
  18. really logged in.  This seems to be caused by the various programs that
  19. create "terminals" and put entries in /etc/utmp, not always managing to
  20. clean up after themselves (usually when these programs are killed off in
  21. some abrupt fashion).  Is there a utility which will "fix" /etc/utmp by
  22. removing records that are bogus.

  24. The second problem deals with umounting disks and getting "mount device
  25. busy". I'd like a utility that will list the process(s) that have
  26. connections to a specified disk, so I can kill these processes off or
  27. have the users of these process disconnect themselves from the disk to
  28. be umounted, without having to reboot the system (a real pain).

  32. Please respond directly, since I cannot stand to deal with the
  33. newsreaders we have (rn and xrn), which tend to drive me nuts trying to
  34. use them...
