- please bear with me if this is a repost, I sent this about a week ago and
- haven't seen anythin of it yet.
-
- Hi
- I am trying to attach a sun shoebox blah-blah to a personal DEC station
- 5000/20 and am having no luck.
-
- Here are the particulars:
-
- o shoebox: sun micropolis 85meg shoebox is model# 511
- it is being externally terminated.
-
- o DEC station: personal DEC station 5000/20 with an internal DEC hard
- disk mounted on rz2, ram is maxed out at 40MB.
-
- o Unison 1.3gig External hard disk
- mounted on rz6
- the scsi id on the drive is 3 but the decstation refers to it as scsi
- id 6
-
- The problem is that the DECstation will not recognize the shoebox and therefore
- I cannot boot it
-
- All tests are done in single user mode since the DEC stalls each time it tries
- to access the "new" disk.
-
- here are the various configurations that I have tried:
-
- 1 ) As it stands normally, the decstation with internal harddisk and an
- external UNISON 1.3gig harddisk terminated externally on the UNISON.
- The SCSI ID on the UNISON is set at 3.
-
- I have numbered the lines for easy reference.

- 4 ) with ds1, the shoebox, then the UNISON. terminated at the UNISON
-
- On bootup all seems ok but then this:
-
- SCSI Bus 0: command abortede (#0) ID = 6 cmd 0x8
- SCSI Bus 0: resetting Bus (#2)
- and it starts the boot over again.
-
- cnfg 3
- .. normal follow through with all lines present but doesn't add a line for the
- shoebox.
-
- Can anyone give me some direction as to where to go from here?
-
- Does the fact that the shoebox is not being terminated internally with the
- resistors but is externally being terminated on the free SCSI port have
- something to do with it?
