- From the few responses I've received and with WP technical assistance let me
- sumarize:
-
- Problem: file in use error when attempting to edit wpport.def via wpport.
-
- Cause: WP says its Ultix' file locking at fault
-
- Solution:
-
- Wpport has some problems and this procedure should be followed when updating
- (as root or course);
-
- Note: Only run wpport on the server (ie: not from diskelss workstations)
- -WP corp recommends the console...
-
- 1) Before using wpport check to see that the current working version of
- /usr/local/wp5.0/slib/wpport.def has a copy (ie: wpport.def.jun11_92).
- Similarly, see that the current working version of
- /usr/local/wp5.0/lib/.wp.set has a copy. If not, then create copies.
-
- 2) Assure no users of WordPerfect.
-
- 3) Kill wpexc;
-
- % wpexc -K
-
- Assure that this is done on each host involved as wpexc reads
- wpport.def only once.
-
- 4) Delete wpport.def and replace with the copy.
-
- % rm wpport.def and cp wpport.def.<date> wpport.def
-
- For some reason, you must remove, not copy over.
-
- 5) Use wpport as required and save.
-
- 6) Start wp (should be vt100) and from setup disable UNIX file locking.
- Make the appropriate changes to printer definitions.
-
- 7) Prior to exiting wp, assure that UNIX file locking is not disabled.
-
- 8) If all is now fine, assure that copies of wpport.def and .wp.set
- are made.
-
- 9) In the distributed environment wp, and hence wpexc, runs on the host
- executing wp. A change to wpport.def must be accompanied by killing
- wpexc on hosts with wpexc currently running.
-
-
- As a final note: WordPerfect Corp has no plan to port WP 5.1 to Ultrix. I
- don't know about others but I'm not happy about this. Every major platform
- is at or is going to 5.1. I guess WP Corp view Ultrix as a rather
- insignificant platform. Hey DEC! - wanna give a little push?
