- I'm putting together some hardware that is going to run Esix Unix, and I
- have some questions about Ethernet controllers. According to Esix, the
- following cards (among others) are supported:
-
- 3COM 3C503
- 3COM 3C507
- Western Digital / SMC 8003
- Western Digital / SMC 8013
-
- 1. Which of the above are 16-bit cards?
-
- 2. What are the common names (the names seen in advertisements) for the
- Western Digital / SMC products? I see a lot of ads for:
-
- Ethercard-Plus 16
- Ethercard Elite Plus 16-bit
- etc.
-
- Are these the same thing? Do they correspond to the 8003, the 8013,
- or neither?
-
- 3. Any advice about which Ethernet card to choose for best performance?
-
- Thanks in advance.
