- Most 525MB drives determine the recording format by looking at the
- tape. If you put a *non-blank* QIC150 tape in the drive, they'll
- automatically switch into QIC150 mode (250MB tapes are really overlong
- 150MB tapes).

- Of course, this doesn't for blank tapes.

- There is no way for a QIC drive to figure out the media type on a
- blank tape.
