-
- How about #3?
-
- Machine from Gateway. OS from ESIX.
- You get an OS way cheaper than SCO (street price for ESIX is below Dell),
- the added features of R4, and the freedom to choose your own *supported*
- hardware from an assortment of vendors.

-
- ESIX support is no-charge and helpful. If you're smart and/or lucky you
- can get ESIX from a VAR who is familiar with the specific applications you
- want to run, and can provide more localized/specialized help.

-
- ESIX's X supports the ATI cards, TIGA, ET4000 and ET3000, and Everex
- Viewpoint. It also supports super-cheap X on a hercules monchrome card.

-
- With ESIX you can save more money by buying it without its GUIs, and
- getting either the free implementation of X11R5, or the commercial ones
- offered by a number of third-party vendors. Going this route, the choice
- of video gets broader still.

-
- Dell, SCO, ESIX and others provide standard VGA support under X, but I
- don't know of anyone who'll recommend using it.
-

-
- Not if you're putting in X.
