- I too am a bit miffed that we have to have com1 and com2. We had this
- discussion when the linux serial ports were looked at. Personally I
- think it's more important to comply with the rest of the unix world than
- it is to pacify the DOS users. I'm all in favour of easing the
- transition from DOS to unix but they're going to have a bit of a shock
- when they find everything else is zero based. They're going to be even
- more shocked when they find com1 and com2 don't even exist on other unix
- boxes.
-
- This change seems to be causing more confusion than anything else. Those
- die hard unix people feel uncomfortable with it and those with less
- experience are getting confused by conflicting messages relating to
- different com numbers. I think we should change back to zero based com
- ports.
-
- Well that's my gripe for the week out the way.
