- Some time ago I had sent out a query as to whether you could boot
- A/UX 3.0 from a Digital Equipment Corporation RRD42 CD-ROM reader.
- As I received no replies of any kind I decided to take a chance,
- and it worked flawlessly. When I got the drive, I set the SCSI ID
- to 3, plugged it in, popped in the A/UX CD-ROM and the A/UX boot
- floppy, turned it on and clicked on Install (I had partitioned the
- drive well in advance.) I was also able to use the hacked CDROM
- driver from the A/UX boot floppy to use the Macworld Expo CD under
- System 7, where it worked just dandy. Under A/UX the only oddity
- I came across was the fact that the music doesnt repeat as the
- mirrored globe rotates as it does under System 7. I gather the
- DMA on the IIfx plays a big role under A/UX, because the Quicktime
- movies seemed smoother under A/UX than raw System 7. I should note
- than with both the "hacked driver" (what a name!) and A/UX I had
- the Expo CD installed at boot time. I havent tried (nor am I sure
- that its possible) to change discs and remount them. -Steve
