  14. Here at Cal Poly we have an IBM 3090/400E running AIX/370 among a slew
  15. of other Operating Systems with an attached cluster of PS/2s.  We are
  16. currently in the process of receiving 5 IBM RISC/6000 560s and one 970
  17. to become a replacement for the PS/2 cluster (thank God for grants). 
  18. We are in the process of porting and upgrading current software to
  19. make the move to the 6000s and AIX/ESA which is also coming soon.

  21. As part of this operation, we have obtained a license for AT&T C++
  22. 3.01 for the 3090.  We also have AT&T C++ version 2.1 on the 3090 that
  23. was built with version 1.2 (not 1.2.1) and would prefer not to use it
  24. to build 3.01 because of the 1.2libs.
  25.  
  26. Has anyone built C++ 3.01 for the 370 systems under AIX 1.2.1?  Has
  27. anyone done it yet for the 6000s?  I would prefer to build it on which
  28. ever is the easier (and if someone already has it built, maybe we can
  29. share).  If I need to move it to the 6000s, we would have to transfer
  30. the license from the 3090.

  32. The other kicker in this is that someone on campus may be able to
  33. afford the IBM HESC group H (RISC/6000 advanced) which includes C++
  34. and that would save me a lot of trouble, although it would mean
  35. building it on the 3090 with the AT&T version.
