  20. Have you set up the file /etc/resolv.conf to point at your local
  21. nameserver?  In theory, you don't really need it for DNS to work
  22. "properly", but in practice setting this up has cured problems on some
  23. of our machines that sound remarkably similar to what you're
  24. experiencing.
