  14. I have modified fingerd so that it fingers back.  It writes to a log
  15. file the IP address the finger came from, the person fingered (if any)
  16. and the date.  The finger-backs create (or append to) a file named by
  17. the IP address, so I have a log for each host that fingers my site.

  19. I am willing to share my changes but only if I can get a copy of
  20. fingerd that is truly free.  That is to say I don't want to share my
  21. exact copy because my source code license may not apply to everyone
  22. on the net.  If someone can point me to a FREE copy of fingerd, I will
  23. apply my patches and make them available to the curious.

  25. Oh, in case you are curious, I keep a lock for each host for a few
  26. minutes.  If there is a lock on a host, I do not finger it back.
  27. This prevents endless loops.
